Eye Makeup Remover | High-End vs. Drugstore

Can I just take a moment to accept the fact that November is around the corner which means the holidays will be here before we know it! Where is the time going?! ::sigh:: ok, now that that’s over…hello!

I originally wanted to review this one specific product, the Lancôme Bi-Facil Double-Action Eye Makeup Remover, but then I decided to do a little comparison with a drugstore product. I tend to use mainly waterproof eye products because for some reason eyeliner and mascaras tend to run on me so a good eye makeup remover is crucial! A product that doesn’t require a ton of product to do the job, no irritation/burning, and one that doesn’t leave my eyelids super oily.

In the past, I’ve used the Maybelline Clean Express Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover and I was honestly so impressed with it! It was affordable and available at the drug store, umm it can’t get better than that. But I was running really low and when I went to Target, it was nowhere to be found. I went to 3 different CVS/Walgreens (yes, that’s how good it is) and nothing. I was so sad thinking they had discontinued it. It was time to do some research and of course I then took my happy ass to Sephora (duhh).

I decided to go for the Lancôme Bi-Facil Double-Action Eye Makeup Remover because it had positive reviews and 5 stars on the Sephora website. This product retails for $28 and has 4.2 fl.oz. I thought, “this better work for the price”. It has been 2 months and I tried really hard to love it but it’s just not doing it for me. I hate when this happens, especially because this is a higher-end product you know, it’s not cheap. The first thing I dislike the MOST is that you have to literally sit there and soak up your cotton round with product. I have to use soooo much of it so that it can do a decent job removing the eye makeup. This sucks because again, this wasn’t something I paid $5 for. The second disappointment is that even though I have to use a lot, sometimes it doesn’t remove the makeup completely, leaving me looking like a panda (pandas are cute but it doesn’t look good on me). I’m annoyed at the fact that it is almost four drops away from finishing and my pockets hurt lol.

Eye makeup for the night: 2 coats of mascara (top), bottom lashes, liquid liner
No, I am not wearing fake lashes 😉
As you can see, most of the cotton round is damp with the Lancôme makeup remover.
Bottom left pic: you can see there’s still liquid liner on my lid.
Bottom right: I had to add more product on the other side of the cotton round.

This past weekend, I went into Ulta and I just so happened to pass through the little drug store section of the store aaaaaand what did I see to my left?! The Maybelline Clean Express!!!!! I was soooooo happppyyyyy!!!!! Lol I grabbed the LAST one … and I really mean grab, like if someone was going for it too I might have just fought for it. Now, just a little FYI there are two types: the liquid and gel. Personally, I have only used the liquid one it just seems easier & less of a mess. The Maybelline Clean Express Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover retails for $5.99 at Ulta (and in most drug stores) it contains 4.0 fl.oz. Let’s take a brief moment to appreciate the price & quality of this product as opposed to the Lancôme …. ::moment of silence::….. ok, let’s continue.

Quarter size (middle) of the Maybelline makeup remover.
Top right pic: most of the eye makeup is pretty much off.
Bottom left pic: all makeup has been removed.
Just one side of the cotton round used versus the Lancôme

I can’t say enough good things about the Maybelline eye makeup remover!

  • Requires a quarter size amount
  • Removes ALL eye makeup INCLUDING waterproof
  • Gentle, no irritation or drying (on lids or eyes)
  • Oil-free
  • Affordable
  • Great for sensitive eyes
End result with the Lancôme. Took off all the eye makeup but required more product
VS.
End result after using the Maybelline. Removed all eye makeup after 2 swipes, no additional product necessary.
For some reason, I cannot find this product in any Target stores anymore but it is available at CVS, Walgreens, and Ulta. FYI, it sells out fast! I usually like to purchase 2 at a time, especially when they have BOGO promos or coupons. If you’re a waterproof junkie, I highly recommend this eye makeup remover. Give it a try and share your results! oh & don’t forget to thank me later haha!

Please remember this is just my personal opinion based on my experience.
