Funkshion Fashion Week Miami Beach

Being part of an audience to witness a fashion show has always been a dream of mine. I would volunteer as a dresser and for backstage assistance during fashion shows back when I was a student at MIU. Originally, I wanted to get into fashion show production. It’s incredible how even the smallest details play a huge role when running a show. I’m used to seeing models running around, throwing their clothes, struggling to get out of complicated shoes to get ready for their next look. Being backstage would give me butterflies…but those butterflies I felt watching the shows during Funkshion Fashion Week were on a completely different level! ❤

What is Funkshion you ask?

I attended Friday night’s show (Nov. 7th) which included clothing brands Style Mafia and Hamel, both introducing their Fall 2015 collections. Swimwear designer Maria Lepe was also on the runway showcasing her Spring/Summer 2015 collection. All 3 were divine!!
Style Mafia kept it edgy and chic with gorgeous pieces. It was a nice mixture of dresses, skirts, and jackets. But what I loved the most about this collection were the stripes and the lace! The collection had it’s pops of color but it mainly consisted of neutrals. In case you didn’t know, this girl right here is a sucker for neutrals!

Hamel was next in line. In this collection, there were a lot of long, nicely fitted dresses. What I loved the most about a lot of these pieces was the fringe. It was ALL about the fringe! A few dresses had cut-outs around the neckline, back, and arms. There was variety in color some neutrals, hot pink, green, and the most gorgeous shade of teal I have ever seen.

Maria Lepe’s swimwear collection was the final show of the night. A wide selection of one-pieces and separates in vivid colors and patterns; however, this collection screamed s e q u e n c e! All of the styles were different, and I must say the sequence added a touch of fun to each piece!

Sitting second row with two of my great friends watching all 3 fashion shows was a dream! You know, typical Friday night in Miami lol. My friends and I had a great time (and great laughs). A big THANK YOU goes out to them for supporting me and being so eager to attend these events. It was an amazing experience, thank you again to Funkshion for having me be a part of this incredible evening!
