If you’ve been keeping up with my Instagram feed or Snapchat, this “surprise” won’t be much of a surprise to you. In case you’re not sure what it is I am referring to, I’ve been keeping a little (ok, a BIG) secret for TWO months and finally announced the amazing news the day of through my social media.
Recently, I made a pretty impulsive decision. One that I knew would change my life, career, and perspective indefinitely. Experiencing fashion week has been a lifelong dream of mine, along with traveling alone at least once in my life. One night at about 3-something a.m., being the night owl that I am I began to browse the web for flights as getting away seemed like the right thing to do. With fashion week around the corner, going to New York was cutting it too close from the night I was doing this little research, so I thought “Which city showcases fashion week shortly after NYFW?”. Not even an hour after switching back and forth from tab to tab, I checked my bank account to reassure I had the proper funds and booked a flight to London.
I hadn’t the slightest clue how or who I would contact to attend events. Was it too late? Did I make the right decision? Could I survive being so far away? All of these questions came up but my intuition spoke louder — deep down I knew this was the right time to take such a leap of faith.
With such short notice and very little time, I contacted PR agencies and designer houses via email to see if someone would approve an invite to a fashion show. With what I knew were last minute responses (or some no response at all) throughout my research, I discovered what is known as London Fashion Weekend; a weekend long event consisting of various industry talks & interviews, fashion shows, straight from the runway shopping, & much more, completely open to the public and those in the fashion industry as well. My arrival date was coincidently enough the same as the opening day of LFW, that was yet another positive sign after all. On Day 1 of LFW, I had the opportunity of attending a panel with designer Sophia Webster, sit front row (say what?!) at the PREEN by Thornton Bregazzi fashion show, participate during a talk with Caroline Rush (CEO of the British Fashion Council), along with meeting some cool local bloggers and exchanging contact info with lovely women who I met throughout the evening.
– OUTFIT DETAILS –
Between trying to figure out the London public transportation system, to my Uber account getting deactivated (still trying to figure out why) and running on little to no time to get ready before my first event, I couldn’t have picked an easier yet stylish outfit for Day #1. With the weather beginning to feel breezy and cool, there was no way I’d be getting away with wearing this maxi dress on its own nor did I want to cover it up by throwing a jacket over it. Instead, I decided to layer up the chic way.
Inspired by Olivia Palermo’s recent Fall Faves collab with Banana Republic, I absolutely fell in LOVE with how she styled this floral maxi dress and so I decided to add a personal touch to my own. Long and silky with an all-around gorgeous botanical print, this little number received a lot of attention and compliments this evening. I thought to myself, wow so simple and from Forever 21, hey I’ll take it! This purse with its metal gold hoops resembling antique door handles added the right amount of edge, and not to mention the added height of these Sam Edelman black suede boots I found hidden in Marshall’s. With a cozy turtleneck and leggings layered underneath the dress, I stayed warm and comfy throughout the entire time.
Stay tuned for upcoming LFW looks and more about this amazing experience. Keep it light, effortless, and always chic. Make those dreams possible, go and chase em ladies ❤
